Last time we looked at ScreenFlow, it was a product of Vara Software. Since then, Vara has been bought out by Telestream, makers of Flip4Mac. Anytime one company picks up another in this way, you always hope that the great products keep on coming and version 1.5 shows that they’ve been working hard on the app since the acquisition.

ScreenFlow is an advanced screen capture application that works by capturing not only the entire screen, but also video from an iSight camera or another video source as well as both computer generated audio and mic input. Once you’ve got your capture, you can export it to standard QuickTime formats as you’d expect, but it’s the editing features that make it stand out.  You can crop, zoom, or pan the video, create callout sections (mouse or window based), picture in picture for that Macworld Keynote look add reflections or drop shadows and more.

In addition to the expected bug fixes (crashes experienced since the upgrade to QuickTime 7.6 among others), version 1.5 adds powerful text objects so you can now add personalized titles. You can also create a custom cursor for your demos and the Telestream connection comes through with the ability to export as a WMV file for Windows users.

A fully functional demonstration version of ScreenFlow is available on the Telestream website (you’ll need to create an account to download and the output is watermarked until you register). It’s is available at the Telestream online store for only $99.99 for a download, ($110 for download plus a CD). Academic and volume pricing is available.

ScreenFlow requires Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 or greater (10.5.2 recommended) and a Quartz Extreme graphics card. Some features (High Quality Export, Blur, etc), require a Programmable Graphics card. G4 or Intel based CPU required. Core Duo 2 recommended. Find out more from Telestream.net.
