Avoid slide re-builds

Keynote is very versatile, but there are things that that you still can’t do within the current version. In these instances, it’s good to be able to use Command-Tab to switch to another app for demonstration purposes. If you use a hyperlink, you can even have Safari open a webpage directly. If you’ve set up your presentation with a static “Demo” slide (to indicate when to switch to the other application) then switching to and from that slide is not much of an issue.
The problem comes when you have your builds set up on a slide and you want to use another app between those builds. You may find that in returning to Keynote, your builds are starting all over again from the first build! If you had already built 5 objects onto the slide before switching, now you have to build those 5 again before you can continue your show. Fortunately, this is easily remedied by turning on “Allow Exposé, Dashboard and others to use screen” in the Preferences under Slideshow. If this is set, then the slide is held as-is until you return to Keynote, maintaining the logical flow of your presentation.
