Brian, I read your article about adding frames to the stroke menu and downloaded your partial list of 50 frames. However, I haven't been able to successfully add the new list and have it show up in Keynote. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong? I did cut and paste, but it just doesn't show up. Thanks for any help you can give.

Looks like your prognostication that Keynote has Leopard tie-ins seems to be on the mark. Here we are in June and still waiting for iLife 07. WWDC should be interesting. Thanks for taking the time to do this! Very cool.

guuud, your observations notwithstanding, the presentations clearly are *not* prerecorded and running from tape. In this keynote we have the example of Steve's clickers not working, which is proof-positive that it was interactive.

Remember, all this stuff is quicktime/quartz/core animation at it's "core". A lot of these transitions and effects have existed for some time in Motion. It's reasonable to assume that much of this will/has already migrated to Keynote. The only real challenge is getting the user interface worked out (in Keynote format) for access to the core animation stuff (Motion has a different interface to the same core technologies).

It will be interesting to see how they take time/path based effects and give them an easy to use interface in a program like Keynote (which isn't inherently timeline based like Motion is).

The effects are technologically trivial to create with today's software and processors. The real challenge is getting this power in to the hands of "mere mortal presenters" in an interface that's simple and straightforward.

I find this totally funny...Steve has as much as SAID he's the beta tester. And this isn't the first time he's showed off stuff that's not in the shipping version of Keynote. The quote with the word "probably" really cracks me up. Steve PROBABLY uses a version of Keynote we can't get? Uh...YA THINK!!!? :)

[...] Many people noticed some unusual Keynote presentation effects in Job’s recent keynote at MacWorld (e.g. the small text exploding above). Now Brian Peat over at KeynoteUser.com has gone through the keynote with a fine-toothed comb, identifying a bunch of new stuff, like path animations and lots of explosions that cannot be done with Keynote 3 (editorial note: explosions = good). Since it stands to reason that Jobs might just have access to some pre-release version of Keynote, it’s a pretty safe guess that this is a preview of what’s in store for Keynote 4. It’s an interesting read and will probably have heavy Keynote users salivating for iWork ‘07. [...]

I remember sitting right behind the video editing booth for the apple expo keynote in Paris, September 2001. At the palais Expo, the tv and audio crew had a small screen with 4 images of the upcoming slides. It was very simply a quadrant (2x2) that would shift as the slides progressed. the same was the case on the monitors that were by the stage and which steve would use as clue for the next slide. I have no idea how they did that but that was also during the days of keynote.

I use Keynote a lot. As I sat in the audience I too checked out the new effects.

I have learned a lot about Keynote from the user conferences chaired by the iWork product team.
