QuickTime export problem and workaround

Posted by | Posted in Bugs | Posted on 06-06-2005

If you’re exporting your presentation to QuickTime and get this error, QuickTime error
you’ve run into a problem introduced with Keynote 2.0.1. The solution to delete your Keynote preferences WILL work, but it will reset any other settings you’ve made back to default as well. The easier way to solve the problem is to go into Keynote -> Preferences, choose the Slideshow preferences and place a check beside “Exit presentation after last slide”.
Slideshow Preferences
Once this is done, you’ll be able to export to QuickTime again.

  1. I’ve been looking for a solution for this problem and finally I found it here.
    Great Help. T H A N K S.

  2. I had the same problem. I was able to export a file to QT before. I had to make some revisions on the file and was not able to export it after that. I got the disk full or file error message. My only solution at the time was to export to Power Point and then export to QT. It worked. I wish I had found this site sooner. Thanks for the info, I will check it out next time I need to export.

  3. Your site has saved my life at work. Thanks guys

  4. Thanks from me in Australia too.
I was getting nasty black 5 second dropouts and shifted text.
Chucking out the prefs fixed all the probs.

  5. Well, the workaround doesn’t work (around!-) for me :
i’m doing a slideshow for ditribution on a CD-rom, which has about 600 slides that i need to export to QT interactive presentation :
i get the bloody error at the end of rendering whever i check or not the exit after last slide button.

when it is checked however, i can export a “slice” of the presentation, but anything bigger than 150 slide won’t work.
anyone with a SOLID workaround ?
(i’m thinkking of exporting slices then assemble them in macromedia director but that’s the last option i’d wanna go through : keynote HAS TO DO THE JOB !!!
    thanks for your inputs

  6. Exporting QT Presentations with Soundtrack causes the screen to remain white when played back, music plays fine and unless you press F8 for full screen (Pro Only) you cannot watch the show!!

  7. I’ve check the box but it still have the export problem

  8. Amy,

What version of Keynote are you using?

  9. Exporting to quicktime just hangs….totally useless! Tried the fixes listed here but nothing works. What is with this program?

  10. I’ve been seeing more of this recently. Seems most of the “old” fixes no longer apply and what the REAL problem is remains unknown. Be sure to post back if you figure it out!

Have you tried the ol’ “create a new user and see what happens” workaround? Many of Keynote’s recent problems appear to be user related and setting up a new user clears it.

  11. My problem is that the first 8 slides of my show is a build, then the rest of the show are individual slide. When I export to Quicktime, it plays fine but it gets hung up on the last slide of the build. Anyone got any suggestions?
