Unable to export imported .ppt’s as PowerPoint?

Posted by | Posted in Bugs | Posted on 05-03-2005

We’ve found an example PowerPoint file here http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~sudhakar/talks/memerr.ppt (You will get errors because it includes vertical text and two fonts you may not have installed) that will fail on export back to PowerPoint. However, if you go into the Master Slides and remove the Title & Bullets Master, it will then export successfully.

The problem in this case appears to be the way the Body text is formatted on the Titles & Bullets Master. If you go into the Text Inspector pane, choose the Bullets & Numbering tab, and choose any of the options there, this will reformat the Body and it should export properly. More information will be posted as we discover more about this issue.

  1. This DOES appear to be related to the format of the Body text on slides. In every case examined so far, it has been fixed by altering that aspect of a slide in the presentation.

  2. Just tried the same presentation to see if 10.4.1 had any effect and it still crashes on export.

  3. Well I can erase the title and bulets master slide but all my bulets seem to disapear from the presentation…and the text along with them…how do I avoid that?

  4. What version of Keynote are you using?

  5. Using the linked to document in the latest version of Keynote, exporting to .ppt makes the text on the first slide disappear!

  6. I have a file that the master theme came from a .ppt file. Everything else graphic came from .jpg files. It refused to export to .ppt. No memory issues, just – it encountered an error while converting.

I removed the master title & text. Lost the text in the slides, but still no export.

I changed the theme to a Keynote option. This exported. Not worth checking how well, as I didn’t want that. I will now try setting up a new theme, using a .jpg file, see if that works.
